POP AND JAZZ GEMS TO SHINE AT TANGLEWOOD.(PREVIEW)

Tanglewood's recent announcement for the summer '99 season contained a few pop-'n'-jazz gems amid the predominantly classical concert series.

James Taylor will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 3, and Sunday, July 4, as part of Tanglewood's Fourth of July festivities in Lenox, Mass. The July 3 performance will be a benefit for the Tanglewood Music Center.

At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 24, trumpeter Wynton Marsalis will lead the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra in a program in tribute to Duke Ellington.

And the annual Tanglewood Jazz Weekend will feature performances by singers Diane Reeves and Kevin Mahogany (at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4), the New Black Eagle Jazz Band (at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5) and the Dave Brubeck Quartet (at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5). Additional performers will be announced at a later date.
