NSW: Christmas road blitz begins

SYDNEY, Dec 18 AAP - Double demerit points would apply for all speeding and seatbelt
offences during the Christmas-New Year period as part of a NSW road safety blitz, police
said today.

Operation Safe Arrival, targeting speeding drivers, drink drivers, those not using
seat belts, child restraints or motorcycle helmets properly, begins at midnight, police
said.

The campaign continues through Christmas and the New Year.

Double demerit points for all speeding and seatbelt offences would apply from December
24 to January 4, then from January 23 to January 26 for the Australia Day long weekend,
police said.
